Abraham Lincoln [ˈeɪbɹəhæm ˈliŋkən] (12 February 1809 in Hodgenville, Hardin County, now LaRue County, Kentucky - 15 April 1865 in Washington, D.C.) served as the 16th President of the United States from 1861 to 1865. First elected in 1860, he was re-elected in 1864 for a second term. He was the first Republican President and the first to be assassinated.
