John Winthrop (12 January 1588 in Edwardstone, Suffolk, England - 26 March 1649 in Boston, Massachusetts) was an English lawyer and Puritan, he was elected second governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629, and is considered one of the city's founders of Boston and founding figures of the colony.
